There is an option on my BlackBerry phone message application which allows me to remove history. Used to be once upon a time history mattered and counted for something, usually good. Not so these days, no one cares less or for that matter most people do not remember the past. Take for instance credit history, even if you had a good one for decades and just happen to default this time around, the economic times are such that you will still be harassed for payment. It doesn’t matter anymore that you were a good customer and never gave problems in the past. That’s history. And in politics too, what one party did or did not do is history, such that any initiative by new incumbents which mirror or is an adaptation of past agendas is suddenly a new development to be dissected. And in law, you can cite the decision of several cases which seemed pat and dry however the same justice may not be meted out to your client and his outcome might be a complete 180. History should matter but nowadays it’s what you are going to do or what happens from now on that is of real significance. Forget history.
