It’s that time of year when I get all excited to learn some new words as the Scripps National Spelling Bee rounds are underway. But before I could get to try out my skills and take the Preliminaries test online today, I was left truly and utterly nonplussed by a new buzz word that popped up in my news feed…
‘covfefe’. Let me first insert a disclaimer here that this is a copyrighted word belonging to its supreme owner and I do not wish to be quoted as using it out of its context!
Since it was first coined in a tweet, my usual Google search failed me especially with my not knowing the parts of speech whether noun, verb, adverb, or interjection! I am not even sure of the language of origin! Can you use it in a sentence?
Jamaica has a 12 years old boy speller in this year’s competition. He is too young to have started tweeting, so (on bended knees right now) please do not let him get the word 'covfefe' to spell. Are there any alternate pronunciations?
